Fatal Flaw: I am messy, cluttered. It may be organized in my head, and I probably know where EVERYTHING is, but when you look at it, it's a mess most of the time. Working on it, working on it. Boom goes the dynamite.

Emily Ondish (born April 17, 1984| Jackson, MS) has enjoyed growing up on the outskirts of Wilmington in Hampstead, NC. She went to Topsail High School and grew up loving drama, arts and anything she could put her whole heart into. Later, she went on to college at UNC-Wilmington where God called her to volunteer with Detour in small groups, dramas, and events. After she worked 3 summers at a camp in Caswell Beach, God opened doors so that she could begin working as a drama intern at Detour in the fall of 2006. She finished her degree at UNCW and became full-time on the Detour Staff where she now leads small groups on Sunday mornings and evenings, coordinates trips/events/volunteers and enjoys mentoring young women for Christ. On Oct 23rd, 2009 she married Matt Ondish, who has also served as a volunteer at Detour since 2007.  Together, they serve in ministry as a committed married couple.  Matt & Emily will be expecting their first child (their little bean) in early August 2012.

Favorite memories: The day I said “I DO!”; Every mission trip we have taken our students on, anything that involves laughing hysterically with my small group girls; every time I've seen a student let God set fire to their hearts, summer days laying on the sandy beaches and soakin' up the sun!  The list could go on and on!

Books I would recommend: Sun Stand Still by Steven Furtick, Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore; So Long, Insecurity by Beth Moore, Captivating by Stasi Elderidge , A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, Radical by David Platt.

As a hobby, I really enjoy surfing or pretty much anything that involves the beach.. as long as my friends or my students are involved.

I also am a huge fan of music, even though I can't sing or play a lick of music if I tried. Some of my favorite artists include: Switchfoot, Dave Matthews Band, Young the Giant, Mumford & Sons, Kings of Leon, Daniel Bashta, The Michael Gungor Band, and, of course, Hillsong.

Even though I'm not really a big reader, there are a couple of books that have really made an influence on my life: True Faced, by John Lynch, Communicating for a Change, by Andy Stanley, God Blogs, by Lanny Donoho, Golf's Sacred Journey, by David Cook, and In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day,  by Mark Batterson.

While many of these readings have helped to shape my thinking and my theology, I can accredit the most credit to my father, Phil Ortego, for being such an incredible role model in my life. I couldn't ask for a better example.

summer@scottshill.org DETOUR INTERN

Summer Saunders was born March 26, 1992 in the good ole' Wilmington, North Carolina and currently resides here with her parents and cat (Rick,June and Lucky). She grew up attending school at Wilmington Christian Academy, attended for 13 years, then graduated in 2010. During her middle school years a friend invited her to Detour and from then on she has been hooked! Going through highschool, Summer was privileged to be involved in soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball and a little bit of mascotting on the side! An interesting fact about her is that she is a blackbelt instructor in the Korean martial art of Chung Mu HapKiDo and used to teach classes to people the ages of 3yrs old upto a 75yr old! You can respectively refer to her as the "ginga ninja." Summer continued to be heavily involved in Detour student ministry and Scotts Hill Baptist Church as a volunteer up until her senior year when she was given the opportunity to be an intern with the student ministry. From that time she has continued her schooling at UNCW where she is currently a sophomore working towards a B.A. in Communication Studies. On Wednesdays you can find her serving alongside the staff at Detour or teaching highschool ladies on a Sunday morning in the CPC.

As a hobby, I really enjoy photography and look forward to pursuing it in a more professional light in the future. I also love humor, any kind, mostly when people are laughing AT me it seems. If I can hang out with my students, take some pictures and laugh all day long, that is a day well spent for me.

I would love to recommend music to you, but honestly I don't listen to enough of it to tell you anything other than to praise God in everything you do!

As far as authors go-- Recently I've been heavily impacted by Beth Moore, Lanny Donaho, David Platt, Francis Chan, John MacArthur, John Piper and Steven Furtick.

Other than using the Bible as my source for knowledge, life, wisdom, and all things essential to life, one of my favorite quotes that I love to live by is " Life Belongs to the Energetic." -RWE.
