This Wednesday night we are continuing our series entitled "Siri," answering all of the questions that were sent in by Y-O-U, the students! Last week we were able to address two big topics: God and Relationships. We covered questions ranging in nature from 'Is God always here?' to 'How can I witness to my friends around me?' These questions are ones that many of us face every day. If you haven't been able to make it out to Detour in the past couple of weeks, you will definitely want to be here this week! We only have a few more Wednesday nights left this school year and we really want for everyone to join us as we close out the school year!

ATTN: SENIORS -- If you are graduating THIS YEAR, we will be hosting A NIGHT JUST FOR YOU on MAY 30th. That's NEXT WEEK! We want to HONOR YOU for your participation in this ministry at Scotts Hill. Whether you USED TO be a part of the ministry, or STILL PARTICIPATE with us weekly, WE WANT YOU HERE on this night. If being with your friends isn't appealing enough, we will have FREE FOOD for ALL OF THE SENIOR CLASS. It's going to be an AWESOME NIGHT and we DON'T WANT YOU TO MISS IT!!

BigStuf - Siri

This past Wednesday night we had the opportunity to give everyone a small little taste of BigStuf and what it has to offer. Experiencing the worship, testimony, and FUN that such a camp possesses is really an encouragement to go, and to experience God in such a way. The U in F-U-N stands for Uncomfortable. This sticks out as something that many of us don't want to be, but it's something that God pulls us toward. When we are uncomfortable in ourselves, we are forced to find comfort in His love. Sometimes it takes a camp experience to reveal that, and sometimes it takes an amount of discomfort for us to get comfortable with Christ.

Next Wednesday we will be kicking off our series entitled "Siri." After the new iPhone amenity that answers many of our daily questions, we have created "Siri" to answer YOUR questions on your faith, God, life, really anything you want to know about how to be a follower devoted to Christ. If you have questions, you can text them to (910) 685.1174. We hope to hear from you and answer all your struggles with Biblical Truth.

That may sound like an odd but familiar name for a playlist. Playing off of the word 'worship,' I decided that I would entitle my list of songs something a little more edgy. I wanted to put myself in the mindset that when I was listening to these songs about God, His love for us, and our response to His love, I was preparing myself like a war ship, ready to go into battle. Every day we encounter spiritual warfare, as Satan wages war on our souls and our lives, trying to make us give in when times are tough. But God wants us to be prepared, giving us His word and inspiring others to write songs of praise and strength to Him.

Wednesday night we are holding our DNOW worship night, and we will be giving a sneak peak of the activities that take place at DNOW Caswell in September. I want to encourage you to come and experience a night of giving God glory and praising His name. Whether you understand what worship is or not, it would be a great opportunity to come and prepare yourselves for what this world is going to throw at you. So come, be a part of the "warship" night at Detour this Wednesday night.

BIG week

This week is BIG!!! Just so everyone knows, we wanted to place the statement on the website.

Over the past three weeks we've been covering a topic that each of us have to encounter in our everyday lives: F-E-A-R! Pastor Jon has really given us some great challenges over the last couple of weeks and has encouraged us to move past fear as a factor in our lives. We have played some pretty disgusting games, sang some pretty incredible worship, and learned from God's Word why fear shouldn't be a factor. This week we are closing out our Fear Factor series, making it a great week to bring out all of your friends!

Another motivation to bring YOURSELF would be that BigStuf signups BEGIN THIS WEEK at Detour!!!! Make sure that, if you are interested in having fun with us in Panama City Beach, Florida this June, that you SIGN YOURSELF UP THIS WEDNESDAY at Detour. The amount of SPOTS ARE LIMITED, and they will FILL UP FAST. So make sure that you put your name down, and make your $100 deposit, to hold your spot for an INCREDIBLE TRIP!!!!!

< FEAR or FEAR <

I was reading in Colossians this week, and the verse I am memorizing for the week comes from Colossians 3:8-10. It reads:

"But now we must put all of them away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self..."

I know this verse doesn't really say anything about fear, but the last part there had me thinking, if we, as Christians, have left the "old us" behind for a newer, "better us." Relating this passage to our Fear Factor series, I have realized that we should do the same thing with fear. Now that we have Christ living in our lives, we have nothing to be fear. The Lord has overcome all of that so that we can live in the security of His great love. It's pretty clear that LOVE > FEAR. So why do we get that backwards. We look at fear as if it's inevitable failure, when really, in fear, we should be reminded of how great God's love is.

Are we living lives that are fearful ( FEAR > ) or fearless ( FEAR < )? If you're not sure how to take the next step in overcoming that fear, please join us at Detour in the next two weeks! I look forward to seeing you all here.

Words w. We have just wrapped up an incredible series entitled "Words with Friends," and we have explored the many different ways that our words have an impact on others. My tongue determines my Tomorrow is a great thought that should guide how we must view our words. Our closing night of the series we talked about an especially difficult topic when we addressed the issue of moral boundaries, and making sure that we are controlling our thought life in order that we may live in a way that honors Christ. As we look forward to the struggles we may face, we should all be thinking of how we can guard ourselves against the reality of sex.

As we look forward to our last week in the month of February, we are gearing up for an amazing couple of days. First, on Sunday, February 26, we will be holding a baptism service in the CPC at the 11 AM service and inviting special guest Mike Steinkamp to share his story at 9:30 Elevate. Also, we will be having a worship night and additional baptism service that you all will not want to miss!! It is going to be an incredible week of worship to our Lord and Savior. Upstairs, to the man-cave, the guys will be led by their fearless leader - Joey Todd. Downstairs, in the ladies lounge, the girls will be instructed and led by their equipped mentor - Emily Ondish.

Not only will we be participating in split lessons this week, but we will be able to worship in our separate environments; girls led by girls, guys led by guys. This is going to be an exciting night of fun and TRUTH. First, Noah, and how he was a hero by saving the human race from total annihilation by simply building a boat, something that many of us would think is border-line silly. Then, we took a look at Esther and how her position in life gave her the perfect opportunity to save her heritage of people, even if that meant she had to risk her life! "If I must die, I must die." - the words Esther spoke before risking it all. These words can apply to any one of our lives. How many of us are actually willing to DIE for our faith in Christ, to die for doing the right thing? Well, this Wednesday night we are going to introduce yet another character of the Bible who was a hero in their own right. This week is going to be different, unlike any other Wednesday night. So if you're coming with the intent to goof off or crack jokes, then maybe this is the week for you to tone it down, pay attention, and actually LEARN from the Word of God. This Wednesday night, would you come prepared for a night that will engage your heart, you mind, and, ultimately, your soul. If you were able to make it out for week 1, you found out about how Noah was a hero in his own right, going against the grain of the rest of the entire world, following God, and, ultimately, saving the human race from a complete wipe out.

God had reached a point of remorse and sorrow, even anger, with the way that the world was. And in the midst of evil, Noah ended up being the standout, the consecrated, the HERO of his time. He didn't need a cape, a mask, a superpower; all he needed was an outstanding faith in God.

Each and every one of us can be a superhero in our own right. Not by anything that we have done, but by the fact that we have faith in Jesus Christ. For an even deeper understanding of this truth, come out for week 2 of HEROES.
On January 4, we will be holding a special night to reflect on the past year and look forward to a new one. Our LAST week of Re[ACT] for 2011. We have had a great couple of weeks exploring the subject of Re[ACT], learning about what the Bible has to say about serving others. Joey has really hit home the points of this series, drilling in the first two ideas of Re[ACT]ing: Discover and Grow. We, as Christians, must first discover what the problems in the world are, then we must grow as God prepares us to GO and tell others about Him. That is where we will focus this week, on the GO aspect of Re[ACT]. So if you are ready for a chance to actually Re[ACT], then come out this Wednesday night so that you can experience what God has in store for you.

Also, we have a BIG / HUGE / GIGANTIC / INCREDIBLE / EPIC night planned out for this Friday, November 18th. We will be taking off on the long-anticipated 10 HOUR BLITZ! That's right, we are ready to roll around Wilmington and take the city by storm: taco-eating, bowling, skating, video gaming, and laser tagging follow by a killer breakfast. Oh yeah, all of that for 40 bucks; an unheard of cost. You can still sign up Wednesday, so BRING YOUR MONEY with you READY TO REGISTER.
For this reason, our series continues tonight. We are going to continue digging into Re[ACT] by discussing the next step in how we Re[ACT]. So come out and see what God's doing here at Detour.
Since November has finally rolled around, that means we are diving into our Re[ACT] series. I know that most of you are thinking 'Man, I already know everything there is to know about Re[ACT]ing. I even went to Buffalo this summer.' Well, for those of you who think like that, think again. Because this year, we are changing up the face of Re[ACT], approaching it in a way that you have never seen it before. So it doesn't matter if you've never been a part of a Re[ACT] series, or if this year is your first time, just come and see what all the hype is about. It's more than just hype. It's the feeling that God has so impacted your life that you want to move and react for Him. So come, discover what Re[ACT] is about, so that you can grow in your faith and go to serve others. A new, clean pair of shoes. The freshest cardigan sweater. A sick new shirt. - all things that can be bought at a store that just about anyone has access to. What if someone else wore the same haircut; the same shoes; the same sweater; the same shirt on the same day as you? You wouldn't like that very much right? You would want to go change and be different than them right? Most of us could answer that question saying that you would go change shoes/shirt/hat/pants/whatever it is/ in order to be different from the people around us who are wearing the same thing. You see, each of us has a longing to be different, sometimes even weird. Weird is defined as something is fantastic; bizarre; involving or suggesting the supernatural; unearthly. When we dress, we don't really strive to be weird, but we do want to be different.

Why don't we do this in our day-to-day life? In our actions? In our thoughts? In our words? See, it's so easy to be #normal. It's so easy to be like 'everyone else.' Just like we talked about on October 5th, God has called us to be different. To be separate from the world. NOT to be like 'everyone else.' He has called us to be unearthly. He has called us to be #weird. Not weird in a bad way, but weird in a GOD way. We hope that all of you out there are having an awesome start to a BRAND NEW WEEK! We are so close to being through with the month of August. For many of you this means that you are gearing up for a new year of school and preparing for the nightmare of starting back (this week)! I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but on top of school starting back, there will be NO DETOUR THIS WEDNESDAY (August 24th)!!! This week Detour is taking a break to let you rest up and prepare for your first week of classes.

Yes... this stinks, but don't worry! Detour is kicking of the school year with our Student Stories week on August 31st! This is a chance for you to share and hear what God has done this summer in your lives and in the lives of others. And rolling into September we will start the year by casting a Vision for what God is doing at Detour. Sharing what God's Vision is for us! So remember! If you have ANY QUESTIONS, feel free to check out our CALENDAR page for details on all upcoming events. The past couple of weeks have been awesome watching all of Y-O-U taking ownership of the stage and showing all of your friends the talents that God has blessed you with. But, those weeks are behind us, and this week has a jam-packed schedule of awesome events!

First, WEDNESDAY we will be having a very different night at Detour. We will be experiencing an incredible time of worship and hearing God's word. But after worship, we are going to take Detour outside to participate in our FIRST EVER DETOUR WATER WARS! So make sure you bring your trunks, towel, and favorite water gun to have a good time. THEN... on THURSDAY we will be taking our FINAL HANGTIME trip to GREEN SPRINGS in New Bern, NC. The trip is FREE; you will only need MONEY FOR LUNCH! Check Calendar for details. And FINALLY... on FRIDAY we are taking a group of students and church members to Greensboro, NC to see Hillsong Live in concert!

This week may be JAM PACKED with events, but they are events for each of YOU! So make sure and be here for Detour and Spray Day, and if you have your tickets for Hillsong, we will see you there!

If you missed last week or just haven't been before, this is your chance to watch your friends take control of the stage, showing off their talents and abilities. Last week we had some amazing singers, rappers, and musicians. This week is going to be even more exciting with even more singers, dancers, and other random acts of talent that you won't want to miss.

Last week we had a guest speaker: Dave Yearwood. Dave gave us a great message about how we are not defined by what we do or what we are good at, but WHO we are in Christ. How we serve. How we act. How we talk. We are defined by the immeasurable aspects of our lives, not the ones that we usually think. This week, Joey Todd will be back on the stage delivering the final message of this year's Detour's Got Talent Series.

Overall, tonight is a night that you don't want to miss. Also, if you have any questions about our upcoming schedule and events, you can find out the deetz at our Calendar.

Hopefully all of you out there are having an awesome summer and enjoying the scorching hot weather and sweat provoking humidity. For those of you who took a week to go serve in Buffalo, NY, you were able to take a week off of the heat and humidity while tackling a huge week of work and service to a community that really needs it. We returned to Wilmington on Saturday night, some of us later than others, but we continue to pray for those still in Buffalo and the work being done there still.

This week we are kicking off our Detour's Got Talent series where we give each of Y-O-U the opportunity to show off the talents that God has blessed you with. The first Wednesday has already been scheduled for people to perform, but if you would like to participate in week 2, please contact any of the Staff for more info. If not, just sit back, relax, and watch all your friends do some crazy awesome stuff. Hope to see you all Wednesday!

But don't put yourselves down guys (Black team), because this is a new week and the games have changed. This could be YOUR week to turn it around. But it could also be the week where the Pink team pulls away and adds to their lead. Currently, the Pink team is leading in points 262,000 to 213,000. Remember that each team member you have is worth 1,000 points, so make sure to bring your friends and invite new ones! This week is going to be another smashing week with awesome worship, a brand spankin new message, and some killer games that will knock your socks off. So make sure that you don't miss WEEK 2 of DETOUR 500. TONIGHT!! 615 PM!

We are almost all the way through the month of June and there has hardly been time to blink! Today we just want to fill you all in on our summer activities that we have already completed and that are to come.

We started off this summer by heading out to BigStuf Camp in Panama City Beach, FL for their camp called Konnekt. The camp went awesome and our group of over 90 were re-energized by the message of Christ that was shared while we were there. Fun in the sun and learning about connecting with God...what a great way to begin the summer!

Right now, we are in the last week of our summer break from Detour services. So while we don't have services this Wednesday night, there is a silver lining: we begin DETOUR 500 NEXT WEEK, JULY 6th. So after everyone shoots their fireworks for July 4th, be sure to check out our revamped and reamped summer series.

Any other information that you would like to know ahead of time can be found at our Calendar page of the website. Check in with us for upcoming events and details about what Detour is doing.

Summer 2011 is officially in full swing! Everyone is out of school and finished with tests and we have already taken off on our annual trip to Panama City for BigStuf Camp! The crew of 90 leaders and students made it down safely and the 'Summer Camp of the Year' is under way!

BigStuf is one of many events going on this summer, along with our Hangtimes, the Detour 500 Series, the Buffalo Mission Trip, and Detour's Got Talent in August. So this summer is jam-packed with awesome events that are going to get everyone hyped up and ready to start the next school year.

Just as a reminder, remember that there are NO DETOUR SERVICES THIS WEEK. I repeat, Wednesday, June 15, we will not be holding Detour services for summer break. If you would like to stay updated throughout the summer please check out our Calendar for dates and descriptions of all of our summer programming.

That can mean only one thing...that summer is HERE! You heard it right, summer is almost here, which means that Detour only has TWO WEEKS left for this school year.

We have closed out our last official series of the school year, finishing the Think series. Joey was able to lead worship, encouraging us to focus our minds on God. We had an awesome time closing our 'concert series' with Carly singing "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele. Jon and Joey closed out our teaching series by showing us that when we encounter Christ, He changes the way that we think, which changes how we live. Just remember that we are renewed in our hearts by the transforming of our minds to think like Christ.

If you missed this past Wednesday, make sure to be back at Detour on June 1 to party it up on our Senior Celeb Night! And then on June 8 for the $5 Slip'N'Slide. We hope to see you all then!
